Furiosa Sets Max Streaming Release Date

The latest movie in the “Mad Max” franchise will soon be ready to watch at home. “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” is coming to Max on August 16.

“Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” debuted in May at the 77th annual Cannes Film Festival and received a seven-minute standing ovation there. After coming to theaters it earned a 90% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, it wasn’t as successful at the global box office and earned $172.8 million against a budget of $168 million.

The film stars Anya Taylor-Joy as Furiosa, who was played by Charlize Theron in “Mad Max: Fury Road,” and Chris Hemsworth. The film’s plot synopsis reads, “Snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers, young Furiosa falls into the hands of a great biker horde led by the warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel, presided over by the Immortan Joe. As the two tyrants fight for dominance, Furiosa soon finds herself in a nonstop battle to make her way home.”

Variety’s chief film critic Owen Gleiberman described the film as, “a picaresque with a stop-and-go rhythm.” He continued, “What it all adds up to is a movie that can be darkly bedazzling, and that will be embraced and defended in a dozen passionate ways — but it’s one that, to me, falls very short of being a ‘Mad Max’ home run.”

The other four movies in the franchise, including “Mad Max,” “Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior,” “Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome” and “Mad Max: Fury Road,” are also all available to stream on Max.
